Follow the PMO Methodology for the PMO your business deserves
Gartner stated:
'Building a Project Management Office (PMO) is a timely competitive tactic'
Further, they believe that 'organizations, who establish standards for project management, including a PMO with suitable governance, will experience half the major project cost overruns, delays, and cancellations of those that fail to do so.
The principles of leading successful PMOs are so essential that some organizational leadership masters degree programs have incorporated them into their coursework.
You and your business want to achieve that competitive advantage of course and so you need an effective PMO as quickly as possible.
The proven PMO development methodology can be applied in three stages:

Stage 1
Commence with a motivational session, either standalone if you wish to encourage your PMO team and see what other PMO leaders have achieved around the world, or as part of a 1 day workshop.
The workshop will both present the 'art of the PMO possible' through PMO success stories and research in to what makes certain PMOs and PMO leaders more successful than others, and it will allow a process of understanding of your own PMO and project challenges.
A report is produced and reviewed with you after the workshop.
Total time - 2 days
Stage 2
Here a more detailed investigation of your challenges and your objectives is undertaken and this is documented in detailed report that will conclude with a proposal for a PMO roadmap to guide you on your PMO journey.
A formal presentation of the roadmap will conclude this stage.
Total time - between 5 and 10 days
Stage 3
Once you know how to achieve what you want to achieve regarding your strategy, your projects and therefore your PMO, it can be beneficial to build in validation points to allow for an objective consideration of progress to date and recommendations for any corrective action that may be required.
In addition coaching of the PMO leader can be offered - or indeed assistance in recruiting the right PMO leader if you do not yet have that role filled - and mentoring of the project team (and perhaps even the executive) can be applied.
